All my books and patterns are especially designed for easy of knitting and are the perfect first Aran project. If you can knit and purl you can make these great sweaters, with my Aran Knitting for Beginners books. Also great for experienced knitters also.

Aran knitting has been a tradition in Ireland for a very long time. Long before we knew anything about thermal dynamics the women there were knitting theses knobby pattern stitches into the sweaters they made for their families. We now know that trapped air spaces make for a warm garment and with reasonable care these beautiful sweaters can last a lifetime.

These Irish sweaters are sometimes called Fisherman Knit because in the small villages along the coast particular patterns evolved.

All my Aran sweaters come in three forms

1. The kits contain my Aran knitting for Beginners book and my 100% pure wool in a lovely off white that is traditional in Irish knitting. If you are ordering the kit, please note the pattern for the kit is in the book. You do not need to order the pattern separately.

2. My Books are for those of you who would like to learn the art of Aran knitting. I can teach you the basics in five easy to read lessons. It’s like taking a knitting class at home. If you have tried knitting Aran in the past and have become frustrated with the pattern directions and the even more difficult counting. They are almost impossible to keep track of.  I can teach you to make these sweaters with very little counting. In fact when you see how easy it is  you can even create your own Aran designs.

3. Pattern sheets, they can also be purchased as a pattern sheet for the more experienced knitter. These come with a clear plastic protective cover.

Included in the books are lessons for each pattern panel which feature purl stitch, Irish Moss, double cables and Honeycomb stitch, these are explained in detail so you will be familiar with it's construction and design, combined they give  that rich knobby texture Aran is famous for. Many illustrations to show you finished work. A beautiful Aran pattern so you can put your new skills to work making a  garment  you will be proud to show off. There is also a  lesson in diagramming so you can adapt these pattern panels to any style garment  you wish, or make up some new ones of your very own. The lesson section is the same in all of my books.

My Learn to Knit Book is for those who are starting at the beginning. If you never learned to knit and need a Grandma to teach you - this is the book for you. It contains lessons on casting on, knit and purl stitches. Making a correct gage, and using double pointed needles. It also contains a lovely basic mitten, scarf and hat pattern to put your new skills to work.

I am just an email away to answer any questions you might have as you go along.

I send all my kits and yarn priority mail so you can receive them as quickly as possible. I thank all my customers who ordered from me in the past.

Thanks again,
Grandma on the Mountain

100% Wool Yarns In 3 Sizes

I have a supplier for a 100% Wool Yarn that is just perfect for knitting. It is as close to the yarns used in traditional Aran knitting as I have found, and comes in a creamy off white color.  It slips well on the needles and has a nice tight wrap so it doesn't split easily. This wool comes from the clean fresh hillsides of New Zealand. If you have never knit with 100% wool before because it was too expensive, now is your chance to experience this small luxury at a very reasonable price. The yarn comes in 8 oz. hanks for only $8.50.
